Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority

The Challenge
The Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTA) in Upstate New York began rolling out digital video recording (DVR) systems to its fleet of 400 buses in 2002, but the DVRs couldn’t accommodate the number of cameras the authority required and lacked sufficient storage capacity. If an accident or some other incident occurred on a Friday and RGRTA staff found out about it on Monday, there was a good chance that the video evidence was already overwritten.

The Solution
Determined to overcome these limitations, the RGRTA moved to replace its first generation DVRs with new technology from March Networks. With improved archiving capacity and up to eight cameras recording inside and outside of its buses, the RGRTA is better able to defend itself against claims related to traffic accidents, slip and falls and other incidents. Video from the buses is automatically downloaded as they are serviced at the authority’s depot, limiting staff intervention and operating costs.
