The Challenge
Measuring 24 miles (38.4 km), the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in Greater New Orleans is the world's longest bridge. Although a digital video system was already in place to capture activities on the bridge, including transactions from 4 tollbooths, the Causeway's general manager wanted a more robust DVR solution that was also capable of recording audio.
The Solution
After reviewing competitive systems, the Causeway administration selected March Networks 4000 Series DVRs for use at both ends of the bridge. It now collects both audio and video data from every tollbooth transaction at the north end, in addition to information on the make, model, color and registration of passing vehicles. At the south end, another DVR system records traffic, and both audio and video from an office used by staff during the day and the commission's police force on occasion.
