The Challenge Giant Tiger, a franchised family discount retailer with 183 locations across Canada, used to rely on its point-of-sale system to identify suspect transactions, but it was like looking for a needle in a haystack, said the company’s Loss Prevention Manager, Kevin Ling. To effectively identify suspect transactions and reduce losses due to point-of-sale fraud, Giant Tiger required a software solution capable of advanced querying and data mining. The Solution Giant Tiger was introduced to March Networks’ LP Data Mining solution at a National Retail Federation conference and trade show in 2006. The March Networks exception reporting system offered Giant Tiger a user-friendly querying and filtering capability, allowing investigators to zero in on transactions that stood out based on customizable rules and policies. “Having the ability to filter down and look at the 10 per cent of transactions that you really need to spend your time on is huge,” said Ling.
